The SPOR Canadian Data Platform is the first initiative of HDRN Canada. It is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research – Canada’s national health research funder – and contributions from provincial, territorial and pan-Canadian organizations. Its infrastructure supports improved access to data, automation of data analysis, and ongoing engagement with the public, patients, and Indigenous communities.
The SPOR Canadian Data Platform aims to create a data access support system that helps navigate requests from two or more jurisdictions, supported by a core team that enables effective national coordination. It works to harmonize and validate definitions for chronic diseases and other key analytic variables, while expanding the sources and types of data and linkages available, including clinical and social data. The SPOR Canadian Data Platform is developing the technological infrastructure required to improve the data access request process along with improved documentation, storage, and re-use of algorithms and existing data. It is creating supports for advanced analytics and infrastructure for data collection and analysis at the same time it is establishing strong partnerships with patients, the public and Indigenous communities. All of this work is layered atop strong governance within a non-profit framework.
